Ascot Vale Landscape Design Project
Project Brief
The client brief for this Ascot Vale landscape design project was to design and rebuild the backyard around the existing pool. They wanted us to significantly update the rear yard and make it more liveable.
This involved a complete demolition of existing structures (including decking, concrete and retaining walls).
As per the brief, we created a beautiful outdoor space with natural stone paving, new timber decking, colourful planting in garden bed areas, and improved privacy from the neighbours through large timer screening.
One of the key concerns of the client was coming up with a solution that took into consideration the sloping block. We managed this by using well designed retaining walls.

The work we did on this Ascot Vale landscape design
Once the planning was complete, the first step was to bring in our excavation equipment and carefully remove all existing structures.
- We began by preparing the new levels of the backyard and removed any excess soil.
- New electrical trenches and sewer connection for the outdoor kitchen were then prepared.
- Major groundworks were completed for deckings, stump holes, and post holes for screens.
- Concrete paving slab and drainage preparations were completed. (Given the sloping block, we needed a pit pump for the stormwater to be pumped up to street level, which was the legal point of discharge.)
- Prior to the concrete being poured, we installed a concealed drainage system and connected it to the new pit-pump to keep the yard dry.
- We expertly placed blue line plumbing for a fully automated 8 station watering system. We also installed conduits under the paving slabs for garden lighting.
- We dug a trench to create a new side entrance to the yard, with rendered blockwork wall and gate.
- Trenches were also dug around the swimming pool for a new low retaining wall so we could retain the new lawn area and install the glass pool fence.
- A big day of concreting to get all the paving slabs and trenches completed.
- We laid new natural stone pavers for paths, and around the pool area, with bullnose coping.
- A glass pool fence was installed to provide a clear view to the pool (to comply with current pool regulations). Certification of the new pool fence was also arranged after installation.
- New planting was carefully selected for boundary screening, as well as garden beds. We placed colourful flowers and shrubs in sunny areas, infused with lush Victorian native ground covers in shady areas.
- We also installed irrigation and garden lighting to highlight all the paths and feature trees. This was finished with mulch to supress weeds and retain moisture in the soil to help the new garden thrive.
The Result
Our clients love their newly designed and constructed outdoor space in Ascot Vale, which enhances the pool area and now entices them to use. The new landscape and garden has really transformed their backyard, which they now enjoy spending time in.
As with all landscape and construction projects we do, there was a significant increase in property valuation after renovations were completed.
